An example, Japan’s labour law reforms in April 2024, which imposed an overtime limit of 18 hours per week for drivers of trucks, taxis and buses (Kyodo, 2024). This placed immense strain on the logistics and transportation sectors, as the decrease in qualified drivers, compounded with Japan’s aging population and growing e-commerce demand added pressure on logistic providers, leading to increasing costs and operational bottlenecks.
