Background

Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) is a world-class integrated resort that is home to many attractions including theme parks, luxury hotels and a casino. As a hospitality service provider, its services run round the clock resulting in many staff working night shifts and requiring transport home.

We have worked with SWAT Mobility previously for an ad-hoc engagement and the results were positive, which led us to explore using their Just In Time system to improve our staff transport for our night shift employees. Given the COVID-19 situation, the process to adopt the solution and get set up with their system was relatively smooth. Their system is easy to use, and it did not take long for our staff to pick up the app. SWAT Mobility also provided training sessions for our staff and the drivers to operate the apps and interfaces provided as part of the solution, which facilitated the launch of the solution.

The Challenge

Prior to engaging SWAT Mobility, the large hospitality company had experience using a technology solution to support their overnight transportation service. RWS approached SWAT Mobility to see if our solution could offer better service levels in terms of routing and stop points. We were tasked to generate more efficient routes and stop points within a set of agreed requirements.

The Solution

Using SWAT Mobility’s Just In Time transport solution, RWS sends hundreds of employees home from work each night safely and efficiently. The requirements of the service included a journey time cap of 100 minutes (for those staying furthest away), and to keep a reasonable walking distance from the drop-off point to the employee’s home for safety purposes.

SWAT Mobility generates customised routes each night that results in an average of less than 40 minutes journey time for the employees, with favourable stop points that are less than 200m average walking distance to the employees’ homes. This meant that RWS staff alight close to their homes, with most of them having to walk less than 5 minutes from their drop-off point to their doorsteps. SWAT Mobility’s solution allows the staff to reach home safely in the wee hours and relatively quickly after a long day at work.

Through the SWATBiz app, the staff can book their rides home from any time up to 10 minutes before the scheduled departure time and will receive their assigned rides and details through the app 5 minutes before departure time. Access to the app is restricted to an authorised list of employees, who are identified by their work ID on the app. Contract workers or any non-RWS staff who take the transport would make their ride bookings online through SWAT Mobility’s web booking portal.

SWAT Mobility’s algorithm maximises the bus fleets (supplied by our solution partner ComfortDelgro) deployed, ensuring that the available vehicles are utilised to the fullest. It calculates and assigns passengers to services such that the maximum number of passengers board each service going to the same area, taking into account the different capacity of vehicles across the vehicle mix.
